The Rider-Waite Tarot Deck was first published in 1909 and was named for the publisher, the Rider Company, and the author/instructor of the deck, Arthur Edward Waite. Later editions call this the Waite-Smith Tarot or the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot to include the illustrator of the deck, Pamela Colman Smith. This RWS Tarot as it has come to be known is probably the most popular tarot system, at least for the english speaking world. However in this Tarot system Arthur Edward Waite swaps the Justice and the Strength cards in this deck, positioning Strength at 8 and Justice at 11 to align with astrological correspondences.
